Wolf Edmunds

Wolf Edmunds' makeshift grave

Dr. Wolf Edmunds was a particle physicist and astronaut for the Lazarus missions. He visited a desert planet that would be named after him.

History

Wolf Edmunds was selected as one of the twelve scientists sent out to explore the galaxy beyond the wormhole with the Lazarus missions. Before he left Earth, he and Amelia Brand had developed strong feelings for one another. Years after their separation, Brand's feelings for Edmunds would remain an influence in her life and would factor into the decision for the Endurance to fly to Mann instead of Edmunds out of concern that Brand's choice to go to Edmunds had not been made based on scientific reasoning when both planets appeared to be equally viable.

During his mission, Edmunds would land on a planet in a system with a black hole. Finding the planet's conditions would be favourable for supporting human life, Edmunds sends a signal back to NASA on earth. He subsequently settled into hypersleep to await NASA's response. During this time, a rockslide occurred and destroyed his shelter, causing Edmunds' death.[1] As result, the signal that Edmunds sent stopped transmitting approximately three years before Brand and Cooper's delayed return from Miller's planet.

After a disastrous journey to Mann's planet, the remains of the Endurance with Brand and CASE are sent to Edmunds as the Endurance's last hope to find humanity's new home. Upon Brand and CASE's arrival, they find Edmunds' destroyed pod and bury him before beginning Plan B to colonize the planet.
