National Aeronautics and Space Administration or NASA was the primary national space agency of the United States. After its official dissolution, the remnants of NASA retreated to what remains of NORAD HQ in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

History[edit | edit source]

Roughly fifteen years prior to the Endurance passing through the wormhole, Cooper worked as a test pilot for a prototype Ranger. After that, Professor Brand refused to abide by a government order to drop bombs on the populations of the planet from the stratosphere as a solution to The Blight.

Ten years prior to the Endurance mission, NASA launched twelve astronauts to a dozen potentially habitable worlds through the wormhole, led by Dr. Mann.

NASA still exists in the 22nd century, as Cooper Station has a branch there.

Contingency for Human Continuity[edit | edit source]

  • Plan A: Send the Endurance through the wormhole to find humanity a new home, use Professor Brand's solution for gravity to relocate the rest of humanity.
  • Plan B: In case Plan A is no longer viable, the Endurance carries 5,000 embryos in cryogenic freeze ready for the first ten to be incubated. Within 30 years, the new colony world would have a population of hundreds.

In the movie, they thought Plan A was no longer viable, but at the end, it turned out to be fine.

2008 script[edit | edit source]

In the 2008 script, the organization folded roughly thirty years prior to the return of the probe from the Ice Planet.
