Ameliabrand1 — Amelia Brand prior to entry into the wormhole

Dr. Amelia Brand is the chief scientist/biologist of the expedition being sent through the wormhole attempting to relocate the human race. She is the daughter of Dr. John Brand. She has a niece and nephew from her brother.

Amelia Brand is portrayed by actress Anne Hathaway.

History

As the daughter of the NASA director, she in essence was one of the top scientists in the mission. Roughly 10 years prior to the launch of Endurance, she and a Particle Physicist Dr. Wolf Edmunds had fallen in love. Cooper suspected her feelings towards Edmunds when discussing the destinations they were heading to, knowing that her affection towards Wolf would make her biased to his planet.

When the time came to choose between either Dr. Mann's planet or Edmunds planet, Brand lobbied for Edmunds due to its more promising surface data. Cooper revealed that she was in love with Wolf, which Brand admitted, explaining that her love towards Edmunds still draws her to him and his planet, even when he likely perished long ago.

After a successful gravitational slingshot from Gargantua, she lands on Edmunds planet with CASE and discovers that Wolf Edmunds had perished around 77 years prior. As Amelia takes off her helmet, it is revealed that she was right about Edmunds planet being habitable. She remains on the planet to set up camp and execute Plan B.
